Manzana 1 Espacio de Arte organizes the International Sculptors’ Symposium in Certified FSC Wood every two years in order to build a bridge between the artistic creation process and the public and, thus, to raise awareness on the responsible exploitation of forests.

In what has already become a tradition, a group of sculptors from different countries and cultures around the world works live at the Manzana Uno Square for an entire week in the month of October, sculpting works of art out of tree trunks of different types of wood obtained from Certified forests located in the Bolivian Chiquitania region. Thus the public not only has the chance to see how the sculptures evolve on a daily basis, but it can also interact with the artists. The Symposium provides a wonderful opportunity to bring art and nature into the city’s routine. Thus, the event becomes a platform for exchange and reflection, demonstrating the role played by public art.

The International Sculptors’ Symposium in Certified FSC Wood also intends to be an open workshop aimed at young Bolivian sculptors who are invited to actively participate during the event assisting the invited artists. The Sculptors’ Symposium generates an exchange of experiences, promotes cultural dissemination and, further, is a vehicle to promote messages to raise awareness of the need to preserve our forests by bringing nature together with art.
