Retrospective 1951-2011
Lorgio Vaca
October 2011
Now, more than 60 years afterwards, “Vaquita” is Mr. Lorgio, a living legend of Bolivian art; and since we must look back at the past, Manzana 1 has decided to set up a retrospective exhibit of his work.
Though he does not say it out loud, he fears this exhibit is a homage in live. He knows that he has lived fully. However, he does not simply look at the past because he hasn’t got the time. He always says that there are higher forces that force him to walk forward, that every balance means stopping life for a moment to photograph it, that each photograph is a static object that only means something for he or she who remembers the scene and that, like all inert objects, it loses its color, shades and becomes more ambiguous with time.
